From WeWork Party Animals to Health + Fitness Coaches: A Conversation with Kim Kesting

When I pivoted careers, I reached out to those who helped me along my journey. As you can imagine, jumping into a new unknown job is scary, especially for someone like me who harbors a fear of falling (a personal challenge I'm actively working on with the help of my therapist 😬). So, I took this opportunity to interview my past and current coaches to get their perspectives on my transformation. I want to share these perspectives on my journey to inspire and encourage others contemplating taking the leap.

First up is my good friend and Head of Growth at Enlifted, Kim. We dive into how our wild days at WeWork (yes, that WeWork) influenced her decision to become a nutritionist and how she ended up coaching me as her very first client.

When asked about her transition from the crazy party lifestyle to focusing on health, Kim had a revelation. She realized that the endless nights of booze and partying were wreaking havoc on her body –– I occasionally have phantom hangovers thinking back at those days.

As she embarked on a healthier lifestyle, it created a ripple effect among our circle of friends. As her passion for health, fitness, and wellness grew, she made health coaching her career.

Now, let's talk about the juicy stuff—why she chose me as her first client. Kim said coaching the first few clients felt intimidating, but she knew I would be supportive, work hard, and look smoking hot in before-and-after photos 💅. Starting with a friend made the learning process more approachable for Kim, as she felt comfortable and at ease.

Transitioning from friend to client can be tricky, but Kim nailed it. She emphasized the importance of setting clear boundaries and treating the coaching sessions professionally. Outside of the sessions, she maintained neutrality while supporting my goals.

As a first-time coach, Kim encountered some challenges. Imposter syndrome crept in, but she overcame these hurdles by acknowledging that being a beginner differs from being an imposter. By embracing a growth mindset, she continued learning, honing her skills, and committing to her craft.

During our coaching sessions, Kim witnessed an incredible transformation in me. I became full of life, exuding confidence and taking ownership of my goals. It was a testament to her coaching abilities and my commitment to the process.

Kim's secret sauce was tailoring her coaching to my needs and lifestyle. She met me where I was and ensured I could enjoy what I loved. She recognized my commitment and taught me patience –– which I continue to work on.

Kim shared some rewarding moments as we wrapped up our conversation. She felt validated, knowing she was positively impacting and receiving affirmation from me. Our journey together allowed her to grow personally and professionally; for that, she expressed gratitude.

To those contemplating leaping like Kim, she offers valuable advice. You have the power to create your reality. When you lead with value for others and trust in yourself, success is within reach. Keep learning and partnering with like-minded individuals who have walked the path before you.

Kim's passion for health and wellness and her dedication as a coach transformed lives—including mine. If you want to make positive changes in your life, take a page from Kim's book and embrace the journey with open arms.

Remember, commitment beats perfect!
